A 15-year-old child has died as a result of the powerful earthquake that has hit Zagreb on Sunday.
“A medical team went to the ground and found under the ruins of a building a child who no longer had life signs”, the Zagreb Institute of Medicine has said.
According to reports in Croatia, Zagreb was hit by three powerful earthquakes this morning, while the situation became more difficult because of the risk of the spread of the chronavirus.
In the morning, the head of state has gathered at an extraordinary meeting. Citizens are scared but also confused because they are told to stay at home because of the risk of spreading the virus, while others have been told to stay out. The situation also makes the weather very cold for this time. Croatia's Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic has told citizens that, regardless of the earthquake, not to forget to keep distance between each other at least 2m because, as he put it, “virus does not recognise the terms”.
As Croatian media report, part of the top of Zagreb's cathedral has also collapsed.
