The Central Election Commission has interrupted the operational plan to organise elections in Podujevo.
This was done after Kosovo President Hashim Thaci postponed the elections with the recommendation of the IKSHPK, following the massive spread of corruption.
The CEC's complete statement:
The Central Election Commission considers it necessary to inform citizens of the Republic of Kosovo that Saturday afternoon (March 14th 2020) has asked the president of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaci postpones the date of the extraordinary municipal elections in Podujevo, previously held on 15 March 2020.
This requirement of the Central Election Commission has been made after the recommendation of responsible and professional institutions, such as the Kosovo National Public Health Institute and the Committee for Monitoring Influencing Diseases of the Ministry of Health (14 March 2020), that “temporarily be suspended on March 15th 2020 elections in Podujevo to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Republic of Kosovo”.
The Central Election Commission, after agreeing to the decision of the president of the Republic of Kosovo to postpone the date of these elections, has decided to discontinue implementation of the operational plan to organise these elections.
