The entire Austrian province of Tirol, with a population of about 750,000, is located in quarantine due to the Coronobrus in the Alps region, local authorities said Wednesday.
Tirol is the main focus of COVID19 disease in Austria with 474 infected from 1.646 across the country, and five cases of fatal outcome have been recorded.
For several days the pressure was rising in this province, known for its ski centres, as a promoter of the local economy.
Regional authorities have issued a statement placing 279 municipalities in Tirol in quarantine.
Besides the extreme need, residents do not have to leave the municipality or territory of the province, where people from abroad cannot enter.
At one of the ski resorts in Ischgl municipality, several hundred tourists were infected in early March.
The virus was exported when multiple oators returned to their countries after the break.
In Denmark and Norway, hundreds of cases of positive viruses concern Tirol, until as a result of staying in this province, cases of infected persons have been reported after their return to Sweden, Iceland, Germany, and Canada.
