The United States Embassy in Belgrade said it is concerned about the fact that Serbia buys military equipment from Russia and called on Belgrade to cut off transactions with Moscow, which could spur sanctions. “Call on all our allies and partners to give up transactions with Russia”, [...]
“Call on all our allies and partners to give up transactions with Russia”, which, with American law, risk imposing sanctions, is said in a response of the US Embassy in Belgrade, sent to the Balkan Service of Free Radio Europe.
The US and Russia have very different visions of the future of the Western Balkans, it also says in response.
“Moscow actively opposes the region's Western integration and tries to prevent the resolution of interethnic tensions, marginalise the influence of the US and the European Union, and prevents Western Balkan countries from following their independent orientation”, the US Embassy in Belgrade said.
Comments come after Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, confirmed this week that Serbia has completed the purchase of the missile system from Russia.
Vuciq has consistently expressed itself in favour of Serbia's integration into the European Union, but, at the same time, continues to maintain close ties with Russia.
