Air pollution in some of Europe's major cities has declined dramatically since the government has ordered citizens to stay at home to avoid spreading the coronary.
Data from the Sentinel-5P satellite shows a significant decline in the concentration of nitrogen dioxide NO2 in Rome, Madrid, Paris. The following images show average concentrations from March 14th to March 25th, compared to average concentrations from last year.
The Copernicus satellite showed a decline in air pollution in northern Italy two weeks ago, the first region in Europe to take mass isolation measures for its citizens, which included restrictions on transport and industrial activity.
Meanwhile, some of the space agencies such as ESA and NASA in the United States have been forced to disrupt some of their missions as a result of the spread of the coronary, but so far has not influenced their climate data collection capacity by satellites.
The European Space Agency (European Space Agency) is closely monitoring cities in the Netherlands and England. Day - to - day information on nitrogen dioxide contains numerous fluctuations a day, and scientists are using averages in 10 days to obtain more reliable results.
The northwest “Norther countries adopted restrictive measures later that the southern regions, so that measurements of pollution changes for these countries will appear a little later”, the ESA says.
Scientists from the Royal Meteorological Institute of the Netherlands ( KNMI, or Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, will use data from the Sentinel-5P satellite to get into more precise data on the decline in pollution levels and impact that insulting measures have had. Multi-civarial complex modules are needed to provide a better view of pollution. Although the study has begun, it will take time to complete” says Hank Eskes, KNMI's researcher.
