World's calmest place, life on the 40m high rock

The entire space at the top covers only 150 square meters, and because there is no elevator, it can only be achieved with the help of hands, legs, and a little luck. The pillar of life, or Katskhi Pillar, is a limestone monoli in a village of the same name in western Georgia, which is [...]

The pillar of life, or Katskhi Pill, is a limestone monoli in a village of the same name in western Georgia, which is surrounded by the Katshura Valley.

It is about 40m high and at the top of it are the remains of St. Maxim's church, dating from the 9th or 10th century, there is a salt, a wine cellar and the remains of an old fortress. On sight, she remembers monasteries in the clouds: They had lived monks who would rather starve to death than take food from a woman.

The first registered climb occurred in 1944, when climbers Alexander Jaapdze and Levan Gottua found the body of a former resident at the top.

Supposedly this was a place of so-called day and quiet prayer, destined for the deserters who wanted to be separated from the rest of the world.

A more intensive research was conducted between 1999 and 2009, when objects were rebuilt with the help of the National Georgia Cultural Heritage Agency and Simon Stilth's church was added.

The current resident is 67-year-old priest Maxime Qavtaradze, who has made the improvised staircases that go down and climb on the life column twice a week. Food things are handed over to him using carts.
