Opposition sees major error in withdrawal from Interpol, government officials reason

Days ago Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Glauk Konjufca has called for the withdrawal of the application this year for Kosovo's membership in Interpol. Since this year's chances for membership are small, since the General Assembly is held in Uruguay, a country that S'CH has recognised Kosovo's independence. A decision [...]

Such a decision is expected to be decided by the Kosovo government over the coming days.

This withdrawal is being assessed as a major government mistake at the time when there is pressure to resume dialogue with Serbia.

Social Democrat Initiative MP Haxhi Shala told Online Economy that the government should use this moment to stop Serbia's lobby for anonymity.

Shala stressed that Kosovo is ready to be part of international organisations. As he said aggression of institutions could affect Kosovo's non-membership.

The government said it has withdrawn Kosovo's application to Interpol, which is an extremely big mistake of this government. At the time the pressure is put on to remove the tax to enter into dialogue with Serbia, it attracts it. Use this political moment so that we can benefit from tax removal.

The “security institutions are available in a long time ago to be a member of these organisations, like many other institutions in developed countries. Kosovo is willing to be part of international organisations. Serbia will never stop lobbies against Kosovo. With a job and a great commitment of institutions, I believe we will succeed in benefiting our friends and having enough votes to be part of organizations. Our failure to work and aggression can lead to our non-membering”, Shala says.

And from the position they say they will work with an added dynamic that Kosovo will soon become part of the European family and international organisations.

Commission for European Integration Chairman Armend Zemaj confirmed that with good governance the work of the Commission and the EU Council will be eased.

“Commission has started work and we will engage that Kosovo report dynamic - The EU will be added to the correct report on bilateral requirements and to fulfil Kosovo as part of the European family. We expect the legislative plan about EU integration from the Kosovo government and will see how we evolve in this direction”.

A approach and hope for good governance will ease the commission's work to have correct and priority reports with the European Commission and the EU Council. We will work with an added dynamic because good governance results in success then obtaining status and the fulfillments received by the EU will be easier and more accessible”, he says.

While Hajrula Ceku, deputy of the Vetevendosje Movement, says the cost of failure to membership could be twofold. So he says they will act properly.

According to him, a hasty application will be the new refusal.

“A few days ago it was Kosovo's own foreign minister who declared that we should wait in Interpol just before we submit membership application because once we have failed and the cost of double failure can be very great and these are wise and relevant steps”.

It's not just an idea to offer and send applications, but to study each case separately and where we have the best chance to compete in these mechanisms. More disturbing to me would be the hasty application and the renewed refusal”, Ceku said.

Foreign Affairs and Diaspore Minister Glauk Konjufca has stated that the application will take place in 2021 when the General Assembly will be held in Turkey until it is expected to be approved by the Kosovo government.
