In a Twitter message, Ambassador Green confirmed that he is taking office temporarily and that the president will announce the appointment (not me) soon, writes the Voice of America.

The United States has been without a permanent national intelligence director since August 2019, when Dan Coats officially resigned after a series of public clashes with President Donald Trump.
But so far there has been no comment from the White House about the time when an candidacy for the permanent director will be announced.
Mr. Greenell is expected to take office as acting director, replacing current director in office, Joseph Maguire, who by law cannot continue to exercise the task after 12 March.
President Trump announced his intention to appoint Mr. Green on Wednesday evening with a message on Twitter.

In a statement Thursday, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham praised Mr. Greenell and praised his preparation for the role.
It has many years of work experience in the Intelligence Community in a number of positions, including as the Special Envoy for Serbia-Kosovo Negotiations and as spokesperson for the United States at the United Nations. He is committed to taking a nonpolitical, non-party stance as head of the Intelligence Community, on which our security” depends, said Mrs. Grisham.
An administration official also confirmed to Voice of America that Mr. Green will hold the ambassadorial post in Germany and will continue to serve as a special envoy for peace negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo, while directing national detection.
Ambassador Green, known as a loyal supporter of President Trump, caused debate in Germany when he took office when he said he wanted “to empower other conservatives across Europe, other leaders”.
After these comments, Germany's Foreign Ministry requested clarification.
Mr. Greenell has been speaking particularly openly about what he calls a hazard that represents business with Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei. He has called on Germany not to become Huawei's client because of suspicions that the company installs surveillance equipment in its products at Beijing's request.
Some former intelligence officials and some heavy-weight lawmakers say Mr. Greenell does not have enough experience in the discovery and mention the president's refusal to appoint a permanent director.
The president is lowering the position's importance by refusing to appoint a candidate that needs to be confirmed (from Senate)”, said James Klapper, former director of national intelligence during the president's administration, Barack Obama.
“is not good for continuity and sustainability. The general message conveyed is that the president simply wants a loyal one of his, to sit in chairs simply for the form of”, he told the Voice of America.
Even the deputy head of the Senate's Intelligence Commission, Democrat Mark Warner, criticised Ambassador Green's selection on Twitter.
“It seems that the president has chosen an inexperienced individual at the head of the national intelligence community, as duty director”, wrote Senator Warner, further accusing Mr. Trump that he is engaged in “an attempt to bypass the Senate's constitutional authority to consult and confirm for such critical positions”.

Initially, after former director Dan Coats' resignation almost eight months ago, Mr. Trump announced he would appoint Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe for the post, but he withdrew his name from review after questioning his credentials and experience.
So President Trump appointed former member of the evvy Seal elite unit Joseph Maguire, who had served as director of the National Counterterrorism Centre.
Lawmakers and former intelligence officials praised Mr. Maguire for his commitment to avoiding politics.
I think Joseph Maguire did as much as he could under difficult circumstances to prevent corruption of the intelligence community mission”, said Paul Pillar, a former senior CIA official, currently at Georgetown University.
But he expresses concern over Ambassador Green's appointment.
“Grrenelli not only has no experience in discovery, what is a minus but is partisan. His deployment as acting director of National Intelligence is an indication of the politicisation of the intelligence community more than ever before, under the presidency of Mr. Trump”, he said.
President Trump has had a strained relationship with the intelligence community, since he concluded that Russia engaged in the 2016 presidential election.
In some cases, he has openly crashed with the chiefs of intelligence agencies. In one case on Twitter, he lashed out, calling them the extremely passive and naive “.
