The European Commission is working all the time to support EU member states and strengthen international efforts to slow the spread of Ovid-19”, the commission says in a statement.
It is stressed that part of these funds will be allocated immediately for different sectors, while the rest will be released in the coming months.
Janez Lennarcic, commissioner for crisis management, said: “with more than 2,600 lives lost already, there is no choice but to be prepared at all times”.

The aid package will be used for WHO research, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, research studies in Africa and pharmaceutical industry studies.
