Kosovo has signed the green agreement with the European Union for the renewal of thermal power plant “Kosovo B”, the exchange of electrofils and the reduction of dust and DENOX, worth 76.4m euros.
This agreement will reportedly affect improving air quality in the country.
The European Union's project for electrofiling and reducing dust and DENOX is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
KEK Information Office Director Skender Bucolli has told “Zerin” that according to planning at the “B-1” project will be completed this year, while the “B-2” unit will end at the end of 2021.
“As far as improving the environment, so far the challenge for KEK has been the shift of electrofils to TC Kosova Bão. So the first phase has started towards changing electrofilts and reducing gases from TC Kosovo, which will be below EU norms and standards. This project will be funded by the EU through IPA funds. According to planning, this project will be completed at the end of this year in the unit "B-2" at the end of 2021”, Bucolli said.
According to him, as far as dust and gas emissions and thermal power plant “Kosovo B” will operate the EU's framework standards and norms by the end of next year.
Bucolli has said that thermal power plants cannot now pollute air more than they've polluted earlier.
“KEK operates without interruption and, as a result, the discharges from the thermal power plants are constant, so thermal power plants cannot pollute today more than yesterday or a week ago. While pollution in Pristina and in the district marks growth just in the winter season, when coal burns from households and businesses start uncontrollably. Environmental pollution is even changing during the day, so it marks rising in the afternoon, when the flow of cars is much higher”, he has been posting.
