The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, has warned that he will start consultations with the ministers of member states about appointing a special representative, who will have the task of facilitating dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Radio Free Europe's diplomatic sources teach that Borrell has warned on Monday of plans he has at the EU Foreign Ministers' Council meeting in Brussels.
His idea is that at the next meeting, possibly in March, concrete proposal will be made public under the name of the person who will be entrusted with this task.
Although they still do not confirm names of diplomatic sources, it will be Slovakia's current foreign minister, Miroslav Lajcak.
Borrell and Lajcak have held a ticket meeting in Brussels on Monday in the parliament of the Council meeting.
A day earlier, Borrell has given signals that political dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia will start soon.
In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Borrell says that Kosovo now has new governments and that it expects dialogue to begin.
Kosovo's “government was formed a week ago. Kosovars have not had governments and have not been able to start negotiations, but now they have government”, Borrell has said.
Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is suspended after the tax imposed by Kosovo authorities on Serbian goods in November 2018.
The dialogue on normalising relations between these two countries has started in 2011 with the European Union's mediation in Brussels.
