An elderly man has passed away in his snowbound car in Serbia, while lightning and strong winds left villages and roads blocked due to bad weather in Central and Eastern Europe.
Serbian police said on Thursday they found the body of the elderly while saving about 20 people, including five children, from their cars trapped on a street southwest of Serbia.
In southern Serbia, the remote municipality Crna Trava announced emergency measures after the snow left around 800 people stranded, authorities said. Snow storms caused by strong winds have blocked roads and homes in the area.
Meanwhile in Bosnia, villages east of the country remained without electricity on Thursday, while water supplies were cut off in the town of Sokolac. Local roads are also blocked.
A child passed away in Slovakia after a signal sign fell on him as a man died in the Czech Republic when a tree hit his car.
Croatian police said Thursday they had conducted more than 100 interventions across the country due to fallen trees and damaged roofs, cars or power supplies.
Romania also reported a night of strong winds. A eastern highway remained closed Thursday, a number of villages were left without electricity, while numerous trees fell.
