US intelligence agencies have warned that Russia is trying to help President Donald Trump re-elected in November, local media reports.
Comments are made at a closed-door conference in front of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee on February 13th. President Trump is said to be furious by this fact, complaining that the Democrats will use the information against him. On Thursday, Trump replaced his intelligence service chief, Joseph Maguire.
The president was particularly angry by the fact that Adam Schiff, the Democrat who led the plea proceedings against him, was present at the conference, says the New York Times. Maguire was considered the favourite to be appointed for the post of Permanent Director of National Intelligence (DNI), says the Washington Post. But according to the paper, I expect the identity changed when he learned about the conference and spoke of lack of “buse” on the part of his staff.
Trump announced that Maguire would be replaced by Richard Green, the American ambassador to Germany and a strong loyal man. Two administration officials told the New York Times that Maguire's replacement, immediately after the conference, was nothing but a coincidence. US intelligence officials say Russia intervened in the 2016 presidential elections to strengthen Trump's campaign and cause chaos within the US election process. The Democrats criticised the president for appointing Grenelli, who has previously downplayed the extent of Russian intervention in recent elections, while apparently welcomed the establishment of far-right politicians in Europe.
