The chief of crisis headquarters, which advises the Swiss government in connection with the pandemic, called for a strict deadlock today so that further spread of the coronary virus can be prevented, referring to calls by scientists, officials and medical workers.
“We believe we need very strict measures as soon as possible,” told reporters Martin Ackermann, who heads the independent scientific advisory body for COVID-19.
Ackerman called for the closure of less important restaurants and shops and for more work to be done from home.
“We are afraid there will be more close contacts during holidays at the end of the year. We have a bad situation and there are big chances of it getting worse,” he said.
Unlike neighboring countries, the Swiss government avoided introducing another deadlock, largely giving recommendations for ordering food from restaurants and for bars and shops to stop work at 7:00, in most of the country.
However, due to increasing the number of infected people, the Swiss government is under pressure to introduce further austerity of the measures, and for that, it has warned a press conference Friday.
Switzerland has recorded 4,271 new cases in the last 24 hours and 103 deaths, Reuters reports.
