A 70 - mile [170 km] - hour storm registered on Wright Island, while parts of England's southern coast and North Wales were hit by powerful storms of about 130 miles [130 km] an hour, the AP reported.
Floods caused train failure and delays in southern England, and the main railway line to London was blocked by a fallen tree.
In Wales, 21,000 homes remained without electricity for a short time.
Failure has been repaired, but about 1,700 families are still without electricity.
