International Security Institute in Serbia Director Orhan Dragas has written a letter to US President-elect Joe Biden, where he complains about Congressman Eliot Engel's recent recommendations concerning Kosovo.
“Congressmen Engel chose Kosovo as a topic of discussion, as one of the most important issues in the Balkans, as it has a political mission in Kosovo. For this, in Kosovo there is also a street with his name, as a supporter of Kosovo's independence, Vecernje Novosti writes on paper, translates Periscopi.
“Anyway, Engel's recommendations for Kosovo as a political mission, at the end of his mandate, are not good recommendations for future American foreign policy in the Balkans, and especially in Kosovo. Despite respect for the expertise and reputation of participants who presented their views, I hope you agree it is an early period to decide in terms of future foreign policy in the Balkans and in such a way that there is a wealth of confrontation and behind our backs. I hope that you will agree that unchanged positions cannot help the situation, especially the future, a future that will be marked by co-operation between the US and the Balkans, a period which has almost begun”, is said further on paper, It's Periscope.
“Councils of Professor Server and Bugayski that the American goal should be direction in mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia is not good. If Kosovo's independence were so simple, the issue would not last that long. So it is still on the table, open and waiting for a new solution. America is working to find a solution and that is welcome both from Belgrade and Pristina. Unfortunately, Professor Server is still a Kosovo tax attorney to Serbia, and this has cut negotiation capacities between Pristina and Belgrade”, said further on paper.
Just as you stated during your visit to Belgrade during 2016 and in talks with the prime minister and now President Alexander Vuciq: Serbia is successful, in our long history sometimes things did not work out, but I am happy that we have now started a new chapter in mutual respect”. We remind you of this, because that same day, you have expressed regret at the victims of the NATO bombings, which was quite touching and a big gesture on your part. In our 140-year-old joint history, Serbia and the United States have been strong allies and side-by-side in wars. Both of our countries are ready to strengthen the alliance after a period of confrontation over the past two decades. Now is the best chance to do that. You just have to follow your faith and state responsibility, for a Balkans and Serbia, as well as put aside the frozen reports of the past, reports which together we want to build in the future”, said further on paper. /Periscope.
