One of the young men, Dennis Hall, retaliated the next day, shooting Forbes four times. Shortly after that, Hall died in a deliberate fire. With accelerated and flawed investigations, Forbes was sentenced to life in prison, with no parole rights.
But after serving nearly four decades in prison, Forbes was released because the key witness gave up her testimony, which was actually the only proof of Forbes ' sentence.
Anice Kennebrew then declared that he had seen Forbes and two other men carrying gas canisters next to the building during firetime, and they poured gasoline around the palace. However, almost 38 years later, she withdrew from her testimony and admitted that she had lied because some youths had pressured her.
“Everything I told the police and everything I testified in court about firing was a fiction”, she said. As far as I know, Walter had no connection to this crime”.
After the investigation, the court decided to release Walter Forbes on November 20th. Now he hopes to find a job and live the rest of his life free.
Meanwhile, the prime suspect thought to be behind the incident has passed away. He's Jonas, the owner of the building. The first doubts about starting four days after the fire, when an anonymous phone call blamed him for constantly doing so to take advantage of insurance.
