In his comments to the Senate Hall, McConnell accepted the Democrats' victory after the official outcome of the Electoral College on Monday. McConnell concluded his nearly 10-minute speech, where he mostly praised Republican President Donald Trump, saying: “Today I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Beden”, while adding that Biden “has devoted himself to public service for many years”.
Senator McConnell said he had hoped for a “further result” in the November 3 elections, but added that “all Americans could boast that our country for the first time has an elected vice president”.
Biden himself, after confirming his college victory, told Americans that democracy was tested but remained strong.
Our constitution and the will of the people won. In America, politicians don't take power, they're the people who give it to them. The flames of democracy are lit in this country a long time ago. And now we know that nothing, not even a pandemic, or an abuse of power, can extinguish that throw”.
President Trump still insists incorrectly, that he has won last month's election. This case has not been closed”, he said Trump for Fox News television in an interview Sunday morning, although dozens of indictments related to his claims that a second mandate is being unjustly denied were rejected by the courts.
