Renowned Kosovo Professor Dies

The funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 30th, by 1: 00 p.m., at the city cemetery in Gjakova.

His biography

Prof. Dr. Nuri H. Basota was born on 8 December 1933 in Gjakova, where she conducted elementary school and lower high school, while Real Albanian Gjimnazin in Pristina.

In 1960 he graduated from the Belgrade University Economics Faculty. Once, during 1963-1964 he completed postdiplomical studies (Troissium Cycle) at the University of Paris ʹ Sorbone, as OECD bursist. In 1974 he was a doctor of economic science at Zagreb University.

Basota was one of the founders of the Pristina Economic Faculty, in which he worked for 40 years, from which he retired as Professor Emeritus.

Finally he was Chairman of the University Board “ILIRIA” in Pristina and a member of the National Council for Science near August of Kosovo.

During his long work, he performed many tasks of academic-scient importance: Dekan of the Economic Faculty, Director of the Institute for Social-Economic Research of the Council of Economics of the former Yugoslavia, Chairman of the Kosovo Economists' League, Vice President of the Union of Albanian Economists in Tirana, Vice President of the Scientific Section of the Association of Economists of the Former Yugoslavia, Chairman of the Public Council of the magazine “Progress”, Chief Editor of the scientific magazine <x>Economia<3x>, International Science magazine <4> I LIRIA”, science magazine “Universum Jurnal” and so on.

Prof. Dr. Nuri H. Basota is the author of more than 150 scientific and professional works published in Albanian and foreign languages, as well as 18 projects applied in science and 8 university textbooks from economic science. Once, he made a special contribution to drafting these important documents: The perception and strategy of the long-term socio-economic development of Kosovo 1975-1985 and 1985-2000, as well as of Kosovo's economic policy, in which documents have been based on Kosovo's economic development in the past.

With his multi-year-old scientific and professorial work, he left a lasting impression on both the establishment of the new professional-sciential framework and the economic development of Kosovo over the past period. This testifies to the gratitude with which the country and international institutions are honoured.

We remember last year, Prof. Dr. Nuri Basota by Komuna Mayor Ardian Gjini has been declared “Nder of Gjakova”.
