Pope Francis said at Christmas Mass that people should feel compelled to help the needy because Jesus himself was born a poor outcast.
Mass was held at a back end of St. Peter's Basilica with fewer than 100 participants and only a small number of cardinals and bishops.
It is usually held in the main section of the Basilica and participate in up to 10,000 people, including diplomatic troops representing nearly 200 countries.
All except the pope and the small choir wore masks during the Mass, which began two hours earlier than usual so that even the limited number of people attending could return home by 10:00, when the police clock set up as a measure to prevent the spread of the choreographer, reports ATS.
Francisescu said that Christmas should all reflect on our “injustice towards so many of our brothers and sisters” instead of following “the desire to have as many”.
God came among us in poverty and need, to tell us that by serving the poor, we will show our love for”, 84-year-old Pope said.
God always loves us with a love greater than we have for ourselves. This is his secret to entering our hearts”, the Pope added.
On Friday, the Pope will read his message “Umbe et Orbi” (to the city and the world) from a hall within Vatican and not from St. Peter's central balcony, an event that usually attracts tens of thousands of people.
Italy is under a nationwide deadlock due to COVID-19's pandemic.
