Philips: US Must Interve in Election of Kosovo President

David Phillips, director of the Peace and Human Rights Building Programme at Columbia University in New York, has talked about political developments in Kosovo, with particular emphasis on electing the new president. Phillips says political leaders in Kosovo must find a solution for the president without going to extraordinary elections.
According to him, the United States of America should mediate dialogue between the parties in Kosovo. Phillips has demanded that politicians focus on national interest, not personal interest.
This is a moment when the United States engagement is essential. The special American envoy can help dialogue between the parties and make them focus on national interest, rather than on personal interests,” the American expert said.
According to Phillips, early elections in Kosovo will convey a message of uncertainty and instability, which Serbia can use.
“If Kosovo political leaders cannot reach an agreement, there will likely be early elections that could lead to uncertainty and instability, which Serbia will use to justify its obstruction,” he told the World Today.
