Parents object to a month's rest, say students are being hurt

It's been a week until the end of the first half anniversary of the 2020/2021 school year. The Kosovo government has made decisions days before the winter break lasts a month. To this unhappy decision, parents are expressing fear that such a long break from the learning process is at stake [...]
The new 2020/2021 school year has started late. That's because of the David-19 pandemic. Even closing the first anniversary of this school year will take place earlier, and winter break will last longer. Students will be returned to school banks on January 18, 2021, while the month-long holiday has not been welcomed.
Ymret Resiti, chairman of the Council of Parents of Kosovo, has told Express that the Government's decision that students have a winter vacation a month is at stake.
The government's decision to extend winter rest from two weeks to 1 month goes to harm students because even further avoids them from the learning process, when it is known that this year because of the pandemic it has been able for almost a long time to teach online or from a distance”, he said.
Resiti even claimed that this decision was not consulted by the government.
The school year also started late, then it's half-time, and now if they extend the break from 2 weeks to a month it's a burden even further in cutting students off from the learning process. We as the Council of Parents have raised our concern, and we as a council feel that it has been hasty and that circumstances have not been properly assessed. We haven't consulted this case”, he said further.
For education-field connoisseur Dukagjin Pupovci, pandemic and remote learning have avoided student socialism by keeping them at a distance from each other.
“will probably hurt more children by marginalised groups that have no access to technology, because they won't be part of the learning process when their class needs to go home due to infection cases. Pandemia has also had consequences for children because under such conditions it should be done contrary to what is commonly called normal. Thus, instead of encouraging children to be as close to each other as possible, they are forced to keep their distance, hindering their cooperation and socialism. They should also keep their distance from teachers, who make it difficult to offer help when they need”, he said.
While in terms of a winter break, Pupovci said it is good for students to engage in additional duties during this period.
“A month is a long time, but it is good that during this period the children are given certain tasks that they should do at the time of this imposed firing”, he has declared for Express.
He saw the change in the school calendar in order to compensate for lost hours throughout this period.
Then, it is important to change the school calendar so that the proper number of working days, even if it should be worked in the first two weeks of July. Kosovo is among the European countries that have at least day of instruction during a school year, and it is not good for their number to decrease even more, considering the consequences that even the pandemic causes it”, it has added.
We remember that on December 1st of this year, the country's prime minister, Avdullah Hoti, announced that they have made a decision that the first half anniversary will end on December 18th.
He confirmed that school banks will be returned on January 18th.
So for two weeks the student's rest as a result of pandemic and increased infections even in local schools, rest has lasted in a month.
