Last month has been the hottest November ever recorded on planet Earth, and Europe has faced record temperatures in this period.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has analysed surface and air temperature and found that November 2020 has been at 0.77 degrees warmer than the 30-year average, from 1981 to 2010.
The September-November average temperature for Europe has been the highest in history and 1.9 degrees Celsius over the reference period.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service, which is part of the European Union's satellite service, has said 2020 was in line with 2016, the hottest year in history.
Last week, the World Organisation for Meteorology has said it expects 2020 to be one of the three most hot in the past 2016 and 2019.
The Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, Carlo Buontonmpo, has said that the recordings “are in line with long-term global warming trends” so he has called on lawmakers to consider more seriously than ever access to international commitments”, defined in the Paris Agreement for Climate signed in 2015.
Under this agreement, signatory states are dedicated to the long-term purpose of limiting the average temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
