In parts of the province of Tirol, 70 inches [70 cm] of snow fell overnight from Friday, and an additional 10 inches [110 cm] is expected today, the APA agency reported.
In eastern Tirol, 500 families remained without electricity, and a warning of potential avalanches rose to the highest level. In that part of the province, some areas have postponed the testing of Coronavirus.
The avalanche warning in Northern Tirol is at the fourth level of five levels.
Such warnings have also been issued in neighbouring countries, Italy and Switzerland. The highway linking Austria and Italy has been partially closed and several trains are delayed.
Austria on Friday launched a programme of voluntary mass testing that officials expect to prevent long bans on movement in the future.
Quick testing began in Vienna and the provinces of Voarlberg and Tirol. During the first two days of the programme, some 300,000 of Austria's nine million citizens were tested.
The government hopes several million people will be tested by mid-December. Coronavirus infection has been confirmed in Austria in over 300,000 people, of whom more than 3,800 have died.
