Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Joe Beden for victory in the 3 November presidential election, saying he hopes Russia and the United States will put their differences aside to promote global security, news agency AFP broadcasts.
According to a Kremlin communiqué, Putin wished Benden success and said that “as it concerns me, I am ready to cooperate and contact you”.
The Russian president is one of the last leaders of major states in the world to have failed to congratulate the elected US president so far.
Beden's victory was confirmed by Electoral College on Monday.
Officials in Moscow, including the state chief of elections, have criticised the US election process earlier, describing it as archaic and as non-representative of the people's will.
In the Biden tour telegram, Putin said their states “have responsibility for global security and stability”.
Beden is expected to have a tougher approach against Russia than American President Donald Trump, who has criticised him during the election campaign for <x0, which is a multi-acre approach to the world, starting with Vladimir Putin”.
Russia has been accused of interfering with the American elections in 2016, in favor of Trump's victory, hoping that he would have a milder approach to Moscow.
