Government leaves Ferizaj without new hospital, tarnished construction

Already all health workers at Ferizaj Hospital are being forced to provide health services at an facility that does not have enough capacity.

The promise of the construction of a new hospital, its functioning in June next year, was violated yesterday by the Hoti Government.

With the Health Ministry's proposal, the government of Kosovo during yesterday has made a decision to move somewhere else 527 thousand euros ahead of it for the new Ferizaj hospital.

For this decision, no health workers were consulted at this hospital, who have not expected the withdrawal of the budget at all.

Ferizaj Hospital Director Jeton Zeqiri has told Express that the new hospital was designed to end in June 2021, but that with the withdrawal of the budget, it will take much time to function.

“Budget was of the Health Ministry, the tools were dedicated to hospital construction and we don't have access to them. We haven't been informed of anything. The hospital was scheduled to be completed in June 2021-181>, he said.

Zeqiri has stressed that it is completely meaningless to cut the budget for hospital construction, when the citizens' needs for it are very large.

“Requests and needs are too large for space as for beds. What has happened is too bad for the people of Ferizaj. We are taxpayers number one of the state ark and cut off the budget that's meaningless, that's not well thought of”, he stated.

He has shown that it is very difficult for them to provide health services in their old facility.

They cannot even add new services to this.

We can't perform services properly, nor can we add services because of space”, he added.

Until the Kosovo government returns the budget to the new hospital, health workers in this municipality will be forced to work with current capacities. Therefore, there will also be reference of patients for treatment at the University Clinical Centre in Kosovo.
