Germany convinces Hungary, Poland to unblock EU budget

Poland and Hungary have blocked 1.8 trillion euros because the nationalist governments of these states have opposed the conditioning of access to EU funds with law enforcement. The issue is expected to be discussed Thursday at an EU summit.
We're essentially on the deal, but there's some pressure. The goal is to do this before the EU summit”, the Polish official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
A European Union diplomat in Brussels confirmed that the parties are awaiting final confirmation, Reuters writes.
Otherwise, Poland's Prime Minister, Matthews Morawiecki, met with his Hungarian counterpart, Victor Orban, in Warsaw on Tuesday. After the meeting, Orban said there are good opportunities to reach agreement this week.
The European Union has long argued with Warsaw and Budapest, who are accused of violating rule of law by establishing political control over the justice system, media and other institutions.
On the other hand, Poland and Hungary have denied that their policies threaten rule of law, while the EU's stance calls it interference in their domestic affairs.
