In Chemnitz and most of the municipal districts of Saxony, people from Wednesday can leave their homes and dwellings only if they have good reason for doing so, such as going to work, school, doctors, or buying food.
Selling alcohol will be banned after 22, while 25 people may attend marriage and funerals at the most, writes The Guardian.
However, new restrictive measures do not apply to the regional capital, Dresden, where the number of cases is lower for 100,000 people.
Since smaller population regions have consistently had lower rates of infection, Saxonia is already trying to keep the number of spread grounds under control.
The Bautzen district, for example, has reported an average of 414 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days.
