Former Ambassador to the Holy See in France Louis Ventura was sentenced today in Paris to a eight-month prison sentence for sexual assault on five men in 2018 and 2019 during his diplomatic duties.
The Paris Criminal Court convicted the former 76-year-old priest of all charges and of paying 13,000 euros for property damage to four victims and 9,000 euros for judicial spending.
The atmosphere, which erupted in February 2019 amid numerous Catholic sex scandals, prompted the Holy See to lift immunity from apostolic science, the first such case in modern Vatican history.
The investigation began after a report by the Paris City Hall when one of the employees warned of “back-to-back” on three occasions during the ceremony.
Four other men reported similar behaviour by Louis Ventura in the judiciary between January 2018 and February 2019.
