In December 2020, a total of 24.05m euros has been paid in the Kosovo Treasury as budgetary assistance funds provided by the European Commission.

These funds are part of the EU's overall assistance to ease the impact of COVID-19, to support the modernisation of Kosovo's public administration and to strengthen public finance management.

The EU will continue supporting Kosovo with much needed funds to ease the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis on Kosovo's population and businesses.

Commissioner for Economy and Enlargement Oliveér Várhely said: “Kosovo and the EU are both still in the midst of the pandemic. Through these budgetary support payments, we help Kosovo undertake the necessary actions to fight pandemic: help stabilise public finances, provide support to small businesses and needy citizens to deal with the financial difficulties they face in this difficult situation. We stand next to the people of Kosovo”.

Budgetary support is a form of support from the EU, where the EU rewards the progress that marks governments in implementing its strategies and in achieving the goals they have set for themselves. Previous EU payments regarding public administration and public finance management reforms of 11.5m euros and 9.97m euros were issued in December 2019 and July 2020, respectively.

The government has continued to follow its public finance management agenda and public administration, but must reaffirm its commitment to the overall objectives and principles of this reform agenda, ensure the acceleration of the pace of future implementation and ensure that projected economic measures and investments do not undermine macroeconomic stability in Kosovo.
