William Evanina, chief of counterintelligence at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said at the cybersy meeting organised by the Aspen Institute, that Chinese agents have begun targeting individuals who will work in the future Benden administration, as well as persons “close to” with Mr. Biden's team.
A Justice Department official said scientific researchers referred to Demers were not the same ones mentioned in September by the State Department when it was announced that the US had not approved visas to more than 1,000 Chinese citizens, within the framework of a presidential measure not to allow students and experts who were considered a security threat.
China named the latest move as open political persecution and racial discrimination that seriously violates human rights.
