CO2's fossil origin issue has registered a record drop of 7% in 2020, linked to the restrictive measures taken against the COVID-19 epidemic, according to the annual report of the Global carbon project (GCP).
This report examines the annual emissions of CO2 of fossil origin and its stability in the atmosphere, responsible for climate change and disaster share.
This report has traditionally been published at UN climate conferences. This year, its publication comes in a particular context, as the 26th COP planned in Glasgow has been postponed for a year. An online summit will be held Saturday with several heads of state to mark the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
Its results are also unprecedented, with an estimated 7% decline in global CO2 fossil emissions during the year, or 2.4 billion tonnes.
At the peak of restrictive measures in spring, they even fell by about 17% compared to 2019. / AT S-AFP/
