Valdete Daka, head of the Central Election Council (KQZ), following questions posed by the Constitutional Court Judge Gresa Cakaj-Niman, at the public hearing under the court, said the CEC is unable to prevent people on charges from running for MPs. Daka is referred to the Zafir Berisha case, following complaints [...]
Daka referred to the Zafir Berisha case following complaints at PZAP, where following the removal of the mandate of more than 80 candidates, the Supreme Court in 2017 decided to return the mandate.
The General Election Law prevents an accused person from being elected deputy. This Law has been unable to run for deputy, with the fact that it has sought not to be condemned in the last three years. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court's justice has been binding upon us. We have deceertified in 2017 all those candidates who have been sentenced to an all-powerful court ruling and deceertified more than 80 candidates”, she said.
“We will now, even further, until a verdict is changed or handed down by the Constitutional Court, we will not be able to prevent in the future all those who, although convicted, run for Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo”, she added.
