According to the French news channel BFMTV, the team was responding to a family violence report in a house near Puy-de-Dome when the attacker opened fire.
City Mayor Francois Chautard said the officers were shot by a male suspect when they arrived.
The incident is still under way, but a woman inside the house is said to be safe.
