“If we cannot solve problems in the Balkans then how can we be an important global actor”, Borell said.
He made comments in a debate dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the EU Foreign Action Service, a kind of joint European diplomatic service, attended by two of his predecessors, Javier Solana and Federika Moghrini.
Borrell spoke of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and reiterated that this problem should be resolved in the context of the European perspective. On the other hand, he also welcomed the United States' willingness to help with the process.
We are pleased that the United States wants to help, but it is the EU that leads this process. Darken Only The EU can present the important offer to people there, and that is the European perspective. Under this perspective the problem must be solved”, Borell said.
He has once again expressed satisfaction with the resumption of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, since the beginning of his mandate.
Javier Solana, former secretary general NATO and the first high representative of the EU since this post was created has said the problem between Kosovo and Serbia should be resolved through dialogue, but also by offering a faster way towards the EU to Serbia. Solana has also linked this to Russia's influence in the region, and especially in Serbia.
