Italy can soon regain the unwanted staff of the Coronavirus victims' record in Europe.
It was the first Western country to suffer severely from pandemic, and it hoped that a great experience with the virus would help the country cope with further waves of pandemic.
However, Italy has lost another 28,000 lives on September 1st. Only Friday did it record another 761 victims, bringing the total to 63387. This is a slightly lower figure than in Great Britain, which currently holds the record in Europe.
The figures, however, do not show the true size of the pandemic, due to unregistered infections, limited testing and different counting criteria.
After Japan, Italy has the second oldest population in the world, with older people even the most endangered by coronarys. The mid - age age of Coronavirus victims in Italy is about 80 years old.
About 65 percent of the victims there as well have experienced three or more other health problems, such as hypertension or diabetes, before they turned positive.
However, this does not give a complete explanation: Germany has a similar demographic and its balance of victims is about a third of it in Italy, despite the largest population of 83 million. Germany spends more on health care and has greater capacity in intensive therapy departments, more doctors and nurses, and it also has greater testing capacities. And yet, Germany has decided to isolate itself earlier, and its measures were more severe.
