We've been doing three years officially as a commission in February 2021. So far we have 1338 cases that have applied to the commission at the Kosovo level. The people we've recognised status are 894 where the majority are women, while we have 31 men we've recognized as the status of the sex violence victim”.
Until former Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga has proposed that the five-year deadline for recognition of the status of victims of sexual violence during the war be granted, Begaj-Bajlaj has said they work based on the current legal deadline and remain to be seen whether this deadline will be lifted or changed in the future.
According to law in effect, the legal deadline for those who want to apply and gain the status of the victim of sexual violence is five years. This is the legal deadline from the moment we officially began working as commission”.
