Carmat has applied for obtaining the CE brand, equivalent to the European Union with approval from the US FDA, ten years ago.
Currently, the device is designed to be only a “for heart transplant for people with irreversible heart problems and is not intended to be a permanent substitute heart.
It is estimated that “Carrmat” by 2030 can sell the product worth 700 euros.
According to Bloomberg agency, the project was launched in 1993, while research and development were conducted by the Matra missile company, which later became part of the Airbus aircraft production company, currently Carmat's largest shareholder. It was surgeon and heart valve inventor Alain Carpentier who proposed to the French company Jean-Luc Lagardere the development of an artificial heart in 1993.
The device in question may serve to prolong the lives of many people who suffer from heart failure at the final stage, a phase in which they do not respond to medical treatments.
Currently, there are millions of patients in this state who die because there is a small number of heart donors.
The artificial heart of “Carrmat” has great potential according to producers and can collect 700m euros in annual sales in Europe by 2030, according to projections. “Carrmat” will start selling equipment in the second quarter. / P ERISCOPI/
