Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq has said on television in Belgrade last night that Russian intelligence services operate in Belgrade and hinted they observe it.

In the question of whether he communicated with the Russian ambassador to Belgrade prior to his trip to Washington when the September 4th agreement to the White House was reached, Vuciqi stated “Do not underestimate Russian intelligence services...”, leaving him in half a sentence.

He later said that Vladimir Putin had also announced the entire deal.

Commenting on this, security expert Agim Musliu has said Vuciqi fears many of the Russians, separately from their intelligence services.

Aleksandar Vuciqi's “clearly fears Russian intelligence services, and last night in this interview he did not dare continue thinking about them. He only acknowledged that Russian intelligence services repeatedly monitor his” policy, Musliu has declared for Kosovapress.

Musliu sees this in a broader way. He linked the report to a longer time guide, the Russian Secret Service Vucinq.

“Vuccikik is a coward. A year ago, he asked the Russians about the big why of the case called Kleban, when the Russian intelligence officer was receiving classified information from a former Serbian military official. He seemed sad in the Russians. The statement last night, however, shows that he is either afraid of them, or working behind their backs”, Musliu said.

At the end of last year, Serbia was shocked by the case of spying “Kleban”. Even the Serbian intelligence service BIA had gone public and acknowledged that the Russians had acted secretly in Belgrade when they were trying to obtain military information in Serbia.

Agim Musliu says, the reports of Serbia and Russia at present seem not so fragile, but that it evidenced that there is mutual distrust.

If you look at this mosaic, then you notice that even in the summer-long protests in Belgrade, there was a Russian-Serbian tension. There were also Russian intelligence operatives and Russian proxies. On this occasion, however, Vuciqi reacted. But, indeed, he is a coward, and so is the European Union, which has repeatedly asked him to deploy to Russia according to European policies”, Musliu has said.

Russian intelligence services have increased presence in the Western Balkans in recent years. In 2016, two Russian officers had tried to kill Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic through an organization among Serbs. Meanwhile, however, many Balkan countries expelled Russian embassy employees from their countries, decomposing them as Russian spies. This chain reaction followed after the Scripal case of London
