Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has always been fair to Serbia, although she does not support Belgrade on the Kosovo issue.
Vuciq told Happy TV television in Serbia that for German Chancellor, Kosovo is “a done job, an independent state”, but then added that Merkel “was always right with Serbia”.
“It is fair even about Kosovo, it is not on our side, but it was absolutely right when we spoke for the last time in Davos (in January 2019). She told me I don't know what to tell you right now. See how to maintain peace and stability”, Vuciq said.
Vuciq said that “has no doubt” that Germany was “upset” due to his planned meeting in the White House in early July with then Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, who was later postponed after the Special Prosecutor in The Hague announced he has filed a case against Thaci.
He added that this is understandable because “exists a major antagonism” between Germany and US President Donald Trump's administration.
Chancellor Merkel and France's president Emmanuel Macron had organised two summits to convince Kosovo and Serbia to continue the dialogue mediated by the European Union and reach a comprehensive agreement.
The dialogue, after a long break due to tariffs on Serbian goods imposed by Kosovo, continued in the second half of this year.
But, the parties have not achieved any progress, as Serbia seeks the formation of the Serb majority municipalities' association, while Kosovo insists on a general agreement in which mutual recognition would be included. /rel
