The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has fired a senior federal cyber security official who said the 2020 presidential election was secure, and who dismissed the president's claims of mass fraud.
Trump announced on November 17th that he had made a decision to fire, Christopher Crebs, saying a recent statement Crebs agency made to protect election safety was “very incorrect”.
According to a post on the social Twitter network, Trump claims that there had been <x0 mass fraud “in the election, citing groundless claims, based on the November 3rd elections “even the dead”, observers have been barred from accessing polling places and there have been errors of the voting car.
Twitter immediately posted a warning in the post saying: “This claim to election fraud is controversial”.
The dismissal comes after Trump refuses to recognise the election president's victory, Joe Biden.
His lawyers have challenged the election results in judicial processes presented in many states. Most have been dismissed for lack of evidence.
Crebs led the Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) since its establishment, following Russian intervention in the 2016 elections until the November 3rd elections.
As CISA leader, Krebs was one of the highest officials working to secure the voting infrastructure against foreign interference and fraud.
He has been praised for his work by lawmakers of both parties, as well as state and election officials throughout the country.
Last week the agency said in a statement that the 2020 elections were the most secure “in American history”.
After the dismissal, Krebs wrote on Twitter: “honoured to have served. We did the job right. Protect today, secure the following”, he wrote.
Some lawmakers criticized his dismissal. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (democratic) said Krebs is a respected cyber security expert who worked diligently to protect the elections. /rel
