Tirana liberation anniversary by Nazis

The troops of the first strike brigade led by Mehmet Shehu on November 17th 1944 released Tirana from German Nazis after 19 days of fierce fighting, where residents of the capital played an active role. Partizan forces also had air support from the British air force attacking German convoys outside the capital, while several hundred English paratroopers landed in areas between Lake Ohrid and the Albanian coast for co-ordinated attacks with partisans.
The next day, on 18 October, German radio in Berlin admitted that Nazi rear troops had withdrawn from Tirana barracks, avoiding siege.
