The country's president, Hashim Thaci, has just announced that today it has been announced to confirm the indictment filed by the Special.
Thaci, among other things, said he would appear before the Special to witness the pure war of the KLA and prayed to citizens for maturity and demanded that there be no form of protest, as this process is needed to be peaceful.
Thaci announced the establishment of the indictment on the same day as PDK chairman Kadri Wessel.
Thaci's full speech:
It's not easy moments for me and my family, and for those of you who have supported and trusted me in these three decades of freedom, independence, and building state.
I am at the disposal of justice, believing in justice I believe in truth, reconciliation and the future of our state and society.
Therefore I beseech you this day more than ever, and call you not to despair, patience, and faith. Today more than ever, I invite you to reflect on how much we have gained as a nation in these three decades.
We've won freedom, independence and now we're building and developing our own country. The act against me and my fellow fighters is the next small price required to pay for our country's freedom and our people.
I have easily been unable to be in this world at all, even as thousands of our countrymen gave their lives for freedom and independence.
But I'm lucky to be alive and I've witnessed with my own eyes and experienced our centuries-old dream come true, I'm proud that I was a member of the KLA, the most humble value of the Albanian nation, I'm proud with the EU and our allies have fought Milosevic's regime, and I'm proud that we all fought freedom together.
Our joint victory has always meant responsibility, so we have immediately dedicated ourselves to an interethnic state of construction and reconciliation.
Only tolerance, respect, and coexistence are the ones that move the country forward. We are free-willed and not vengeful people, so no claim can change or write history. Kosovo has been the victim of Serbia's aggressor.
This new situation is the new opportunity for Kosovo, and we should mark it to the advantage for today and Kosovo's future, and this is accomplished by maintaining unity with citizens and the international community.
I beg you for discretion, tranquillity and unity, to stand together this is what guarantees our success. Our success is free Kosovo, the state of all citizens, without ethnic distinction, such as home to all citizens.
We are a rule of law and justice, Kosovo is a history of civic success and domestic institutions and close co-operation with the EU.
We maintained confidence in domestic, quality and peace dialogue in the region. So dear citizens as I have promised, I will in no circumstances allow the president to stand trial so to defend the integrity of the Kosovo Presidency and the state of Kosovo, I am now resigning from the position of president of Kosovo.
I am very proud of the responsibility I have held in the leadership of institutions by Kosovo citizens' votes. Under these new circumstances, I invite political forces to prove mature to remain united and not to allow ourselves to deepen in constitutional or institutional crisis, to put state interest on personal ones. Our country has no time to waste, so I invite you to maintain the Atlantic orientation of the state and society. I invite you to believe in the state of Kosovo and the new and European Kosovo, in that of the rule and law, in Kosovo in NATO and special and permanent reports with the US.
I express gratitude and thanks to the European states that have walked hand in hand, thanks to the US and our allies all over the world. No challenge could affect Kosovo's partnership with our allies, on our path towards Atlantic values. Dear citizens thank you for our solidarity and support in this period of time, but I invite you to remain calm and avoid any kind of public manifestations, supporters or protesters. Justice is done, not in the streets, but in the face of arguments. I thank you for your faith because it's not goodbye but good-bye. I'll see you again and we'll come out white, and that's my promise to you. God bless Kosovo.
