Publicist Veton Surroi has reacted after the Kukes County Council's decision to remove the honorary citizen title, in fact for just a few minutes after Mayor Safet Gjici withdrew, asking for public forgiveness, after the prime minister's”.
Surroi said that he was surprised by the news he received.
He said that at the time he wrote about The NLA, those who made the decision today did not know what this movement was, while added that a strange <x0 decision similar to political judgment during the time of communism rather than a municipality in the time of democracy.
A municipal council does not believe they have sufficient qualifications to make historical assessments and I don't believe it's their job, and it does not exceed the context or the time.
We can't have mayors turning themselves into academics, prosecutors, judges, history and anything else” he said, in Informative Radari versus journalist Jonida Shehu to “ABC”
Total interview:
Mr. Surroi! Have you been familiar with the Kukes County Council's decision regarding the removal of the title?
I've met him and the suspension.
How did you know?
We informed me of friends who had read it at the portals and my friends in Kukes.
How did you feel, what was the first feeling, what did you think?
Surprised. Then I wanted to see what it was about and I heard some of the debate that was held in the municipal council and left me a bad taste of political judgment. A strange decision was made that resembled political judgments during the time of communism that a municipality in the time of democracy.
Think they misinterpreted your statement with the role it played KLA in the fight to free Kosovo?
What I've stated is public, there's no need for investigative actions, it's written, it's over 20 years, when I wrote about the KLA, some of them didn't know what the KLA is. A municipal council that is taken, I don't believe they have sufficient qualifications to make historical assessments and I don't believe it's their job, and it's beyond context and time.
Are you interested in why this decision was made now?
I don't know. The municipal council that honored me, I thank the citizens of Kukes, this council and the mayor speak more of their honour with these actions. I can't get into their whys.
You know personally, any of the members or the current mayor?
No, I've always heard about Mr. Gitche's name. I didn't know about this guy.
Have you ever been contacted by someone from the municipality or the Gulf?
No, there wasn't, and there's no need to contact.
With Prime Minister Rama you exchanged communication after this storm in the glass?
No, I've seen the prime minister's reaction and publicly forgave them.
You call the case closed?
60 years ago Churchill said the Balkans consumed more stories than it could consume. Today, Albanian trains produce more scandals than they can consume within a day.
Is this the sequence of this periphrasion?
Apparently so.
Do you think that in this tense Kosovo situation and how Albania is approaching after calling to The Hague of KLA leaders, it will begin and we will have many misunderstandings of this nature or such small personal wars with concrete individuals in the future?
I don't know, but the idea that a municipal council deals with history, I believe it doesn't help history or the municipal council. I think it's important that we have a period of confrontation with the past not be used for political purposes and calculations. In Albania an atmosphere that will supposedly identify the causes of judgment and special courts has been promoted, I think it does no honor to either the political forces in Albania, or to succeed, nor to the idea of confronting the past that we will approach and not to leave. We'll co-ordinate the thought and create a transformational story of our own and not a story of constant confrontation.
Give me an opinion, what is expected to happen in Kosovo and how do you judge what is happening with the KLA war, but even the leaders in The Hague, there have been those factors that have pointed fingers like Kosovo leaders have treated each other, little support and much division?
What will happen in Kosovo I cannot say, but I can say that it is the time when parties, should create a new political legitimacy to confront all problems, pandemics, economic effects, the political crisis caused by the Special Court, the political effects that will have negotiations with Serbia, and in this process of confrontation with the past, we cannot have mayors that transform themselves into academics, prosecutors, judges, history and anything else. It takes a little more caution in Kosovo, more commitment is needed in Albania to join thoughts, not to confrontation.
