Law enforcement in Vienna, Austria has started in what it called a big <x0 police operation”, following numerous exchanges of gunfire near the main synagogue in the Old Town area.
Earlier, local media reported that the shots were heard near the main synagogue in the Austrian capital. A police officer who stood guard near the temple reportedly was severely injured by an unknown assailant, Periscopi broadcasts.
Major police forces have been deployed downtown, and passersby have been asked to avoid the area while the security operation is under way.
