Justice Minister Selim Selim Selimi, in terms of abolishing the Task Force from Government Hoti, has said that an anti-corruption Task Force must be done to improve institutions initially.
Selimi has said that “if there is no actual measurement and analysis, any immediate change of the atu to the site damages the flow of each institution”.
I've also expressed my position at the Government meeting and read the IKD response that I think is a response based on valid arguments. We normally owe it to improve our institutions. That improvement should be done by a measure. That measure of the work of each institution should suggest to us what needs to be changed and what needs to be strengthened, and I think that if there isn't a measurement and a physical analysis of any immediate change in that state, it damages the course of each institution”, Justice Minister Selim Selimi has said.
He has indicated that he has been surprised with this proposal, as according to him, the point for abolishing Task-force was made at the government's meeting.
I was surprised because they did it at the Government meeting to abolish the Task Force decision without prejudice, and I know that there are questions about every institution including the work of the Ministry of Justice. We don't do the perfect job, but we're also taught by our mistakes, we learn from civil society, and from the media and experts, and we try to do better. But those questions should have been recorded and informed of police expert and EULX prosecutor, who was part of that Task-force”, Selimi said further Selimi in an interview for “Justice bet”.
The justice minister has said that the immediate disappearance of Task-force has given him uncertainty, as this Task-force has been investigating several high profile cases.
I've been having this uncertainty about what I'm thinking. That Task Force has had a commitment to how I know it from the media and how the report has been in the investigation of some high profile cases, high profile cases we know what they are that they're targeted and they've been in the media and we know them worldwide now and I think that every single policy position like this is potentially a lawyer can damage a legal process. This has caused my uncertainty and caused my attitude that may be pressing, and I still stand behind what might be pressing”, Selimi said.
He added that they could create new Task Force, but according to him, they should not be an effect of an immediate decision.
“Now we can do the other Task-forces, we can do that means other institutional organisation, but these other organisations should not be an effect of an immediate decision, but it should be a evolutionary course of improvement of our institutions”, Selimi said.
Otherwise, the Kosovo Institute for Justice (IKD) had reacted to the Kosovo Government's proposal for the removal of the Special Anti-Corruption Department in the Kosovo Police.
According to the IKD, this decision to eliminate Task Force was contrary to the process of the Functional Review of the Rule of Law Sector, rejects all investments made by international partners in the profile of investigators in the fight against corruption, and presents the worst message to independent institutions that anyone acting contrary to political interests will have the same destiny.
In this direction, The IKD had the Government of Kosovo not to take unilateral action, directly violating its policies, making decisions that are understood in public as decisions made in order to capture independent institutions.
