On Friday in Germany, health authorities announced that the total number of Coronavirus infected since the beginning of the pandemic has exceeded to over a million.
The Robert Koch Institute recorded more than 22,000 new daily cases. Germany has largely prevented the spread of the virus in the spring, but has been hit hard by a second wave during autumn.
The number of patients with COVID-19 in intensive care was 360, while last week it was more than 3,500.
The most populated state of Rhine-Weestphalia has recorded more than one quarter of all coronary cases. Berlin has recorded 62,000 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced this week that Germany will extend the time of current restrictions against corruption by early January, unless there is a dramatic decline in the number of new cases.
The rules will be eased during the Christmas and New Year holidays, allowing for meetings of up to 10 people from December 23rd to New Year's Day.
Europe's largest economy has closed restaurants, bars, sports venues and cultural sites, although schools and shops remain open.
