One suspect has admitted to being the author of shots against a Greek Orthodox priest in the French town of Lyons last week, due to a personal disagreement, prosecutors have said.
The 40-year-old suspect has told prosecutors that the priest has been secretly dating his wife.
The priest, Nikolaos Kakavelakis, 52-year-old, has been shot twice with firearms outside his church on October 31st.
He spoke to the police after leaving his coma Wednesday.
The shooting took place several days after three people were killed after a knife attack in a church in the French city of Nice.
Initially, there have been concerns that the attack is the continuation of what French President Emmanuel Macron has named “the Islamist terrorist attack” in Nice.
The motives of the attack on Lyons have not been clear at the beginning, but officials have launched investigation into attempted murder.
The investigation has taken place even more this week, when the priest has been willing to speak to the police.
The suspect, who is said to have Georgian nationality, was arrested at his home in Lyons on Friday, reports the French daily Le Parisien.
The newspaper has quoted a statement by Lyon Public Prosecutor Nicolas Jacques as saying that the suspect “is the husband of a woman who had relations with the victim”, broadcast rel.
The suspect has told prosecutors he had no intention of killing the priest.
The priest, who is recovering after surgery, resigned from the church a month ago.
