The Council for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms (KMDLNJ) has supported the prime minister's initiative, Avdullah Hoti, for consultations with political subjects to find a way to elect the president of Kosovo, praising that there are no conditions for new elections.
KMDLNJ has called for unity of Kosovo political and nonpolitical subjects for overcoming the situation that is very serious and only then to talk about eventual elections.
“The KMDLNJ, based on the very serious situation caused by COVID-19, estimates that after consulting political subjects, a consensus candidate for the president of Kosovo can be appointed, without having to cause an institutional crisis. Under these circumstances there are no conditions for government collapse or early elections. In the best case, if there are agreements by political subjects for early elections, they cannot be held before June 2021”, it is said in response.
KMDLNJ has also asked Kosovo Parliament deputies to vote on the draft economic recovery bill in order to ease the extremely serious situation in Kosovo.
KMDLNJ says that if this bill is not inevitably voted, it will bankrupt most of the businesses, tens of thousands of jobs will be closed and, in turn, poor most Kosovo citizens.
Full response of KMDLNJ's, without interference:
KMDLNj, reiterates the request to Kosovo's Parliament deputies to vote on the Law for Economic Recovery in order to ease the extremely serious situation of businesses in Kosovo and that, if not inevitably voted, it will bankrupt most businesses, tens of thousands of jobs will be closed and will therefore make the majority of Kosovo citizens poor. Kosovo Assembly deputies, with the failure of this law, will bear responsibility for Kosovo citizens suffering from poverty and uncertainty because of job losses. Kosovo Assembly MPs may even disagree with the proposed budget, but must have it clear that Kosovo's budget, under current circumstances, is not the development but survival budget.
KMDLNj, also on the basis of the demands of many citizens, even earlier but now requires that the saved money should be exploited according to the will and needs of citizens, not that the Trust decide how much money can attract. The deputies of the Kosovo Assembly, with the government's proposal, must urgently change the Trust Law and create conditions and opportunities for citizens to access their living savings rather than for Trust to decide. Neither 10% nor 30% can be discussed here, but the citizen makes decisions about the amount he needs in all other countries. It should be made clear that this money is not Trust, it's citizens' money. The Trust Law changes must be done soon. Under the circumstances of an economic emergency caused by the pandemic, Trust money would help many citizens cope.
KMDLNj supports the initiative of Prime Minister Hoti for consultations with political subjects to find a way to elect Kosovo's president and, if not agreed, then to set the date for new elections. Under current circumstances KMDLNI estimates there are no conditions for new elections, so it also doubts the reasonableness of holding the mayoral elections in Besiana- Podujevo and Mitrovica. KMDLNj requires unity of Kosovo political and nonpolitical subjects for overcoming the situation that is very serious and only then to talk about eventual elections. KMDLNj, based on the very serious situation caused by COVID-19, estimates that after consulting political subjects, a consensus candidate for Kosovo president can be appointed, without having to cause an institutional crisis. Under these circumstances there are no conditions for government collapse or early elections. At best, if there are agreements by political subjects for early elections, they cannot be held before June 2021.
