Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger called on Joe Biden to restore communication with China and warned that otherwise the world would suffer a catastrophe like World War I.
If there is no basis for some collaborative action, the world will slide into a catastrophe comparable to World War I,” said Kissinger during the opening session of the New Economic Forum “Bloomberg”, adding that military technologies available today would make such a crisis “even more difficult to control “of those previous ages.
“America and China are now moving increasingly towards confrontation and they are directing their diplomacy in a confrontational way,” said 97-year-old in an interview with “Bloomberg”, John Micklethwait.
Kisinger is valued as an old “of China”. Decades ago, he worked together with then leaders of the two countries and contributed to the progress of normalising kino-American relations.
“Trump has a more confrontational approach to negotiations,” said Kissinger.
The Trump administration has increased criticism of China and imposed a series of sanctions.
The veteran diplomat said the two sides should have “agree that whatever further conflict they have, they will not use military instruments”.
To achieve this, the United States and China must jointly create an institutional system where certain leaders that our president trusts and some Chinese leaders that President Xi is trusting to keep in touch with each other on behalf of their presidents”, he said.
